Hospice Volunteers

Comfort and serve families in the child hospice program at UNM Children's Hospital. Through the Mariposa Program, caring volunteers provide companionship, offer grief support and help complete office tasks.

All volunteers will receive six weeks of training. UNM palliative care providers will guide you in supporting grieving families with compassion and sensitivity. We also offer ongoing support and education during monthly meetings.

We are not accepting new volunteers at this time

Volunteer Opportunities

Donate your time and skills in one of the following areas:

• Companionship—Serve as a companion to patients and families at their home. Help run errands, care for their other children and offer a calming presence.
• Bereavement—Call or visit families who are grieving the loss of a child. Volunteers have helped prepare and deliver holiday baskets, as well as coordinate annual memorial services.
• Administrative—Assist Mariposa Program office staff with day-to-day tasks. Your support is an essential contribution to child hospice care.
